RUNNING YOUR FIRST RACE
First and foremost, a race can be perceived differently for many runners through goal setting. For beginners, it could be getting across the finish line or for the more advanced, setting a personal best time. It's "your" race, so you don't need to worry about the many runners gathering around you at the Start Line.

Physical and mental preparation for your race should already be done through the process of training. Training is a rehearsal, teaching the body what to expect on race day. Once you are on the Start Line there is nothing more you can do but feel a sense of achievement for getting yourself there.

Now it is time to clear your mind from any doubts you may have, and be confident in the training that you have done. When you are racing, it is important to focus on the process that you have trained your body to perform, and not the outcome of your performance.

Take your time and soak in the energy and exhilaration in the air throughout your race. Use it to keep you going and to move you closer to your goal. Take the time to savor the sense of accomplishment from crossing that Finish Line. Most importantly, go out and have fun.
