Be the Next Big Thing in Footwear Design

Air Force One. Dunks. Air Jordan.

Even among the lesser versed sneakerheads and sports nuts these names demand respect. They have been resurrected in countless colorways and interpretations since they first made it from the designer's head to athletes' feet. They are icons. More sit beside them. And more will join their ranks in the years to come.

Think you may be the creative force behind the next Nike or Brand Jordan footwear legend? Is your sneaker collection more extensive than the flavor selection at Baskin Robbins? Do you sketch on every blank space of paper? When you sleep do visions of shoes you designed dance in your head?

If you so much as gave a slight nod to any of these, then read closely- Nike and JORDAN present Future Sole, a competition to discover and develop footwear designers of the future.

How does it work? You submit a shoe design. Top designers from Nike and JORDAN (depending on which contest you enter and, yes, you can enter both) will judge your design for the chance to win up to $7,000 in cash and prizes and see their shoes made in living color.

How do you get in the mix? Be 14-19 years old. Register at www.futuresole.com. Registration ends on June 1st.
Future Sole Design

Inspiring design for the future. That’s what D’Wayne Edwards, Jordan Brand Footwear Design Director, hoped to achieve when he created Nike’s Future Sole, a design contest for young footwear designers, ages 14-19.

Nike’s Future Sole Design Contest, the first of its kind, generated over 47,000 hits on the Web site and recieved 140 design submissions. The competition declared two winning designers— 15 year-old Ben Adams-Keane from Arlington, Massachusetts and 17 year-old Juan Carlos Pozo, from Ocala, Florida— and Nike welcomed them at the World Headquarters in Beaverton, Oregon.

To honor the winner, Nike welcomed them to World Headquarters in Beaverton, OR. Ben and Juan palled around with Nike designers and presented their winning footwear creations to an impressive panel Nike execs and top designers- Sandy Bodecker, Peter Hudson, Lorrie Vogel, Howard White and Elliot Hill.

“This contest has been unreal,” said Adams-Keane. “I had the chance to do what I always dreamed of, but never imagined. It’s been a great experience and I am so thankful to Nike for giving me this opportunity.”
