Be the Next Big Thing in Footwear Design

Air Force One. Dunks. Air Jordan.

Even among the lesser versed sneakerheads and sports nuts these names demand respect. They have been resurrected in countless colorways and interpretations since they first made it from the designer's head to athletes' feet. They are icons. More sit beside them. And more will join their ranks in the years to come.

Think you may be the creative force behind the next Nike or Brand Jordan footwear legend? Is your sneaker collection more extensive than the flavor selection at Baskin Robbins? Do you sketch on every blank space of paper? When you sleep do visions of shoes you designed dance in your head?

If you so much as gave a slight nod to any of these, then read closely- Nike and JORDAN present Future Sole, a competition to discover and develop footwear designers of the future.

How does it work? You submit a shoe design. Top designers from Nike and JORDAN (depending on which contest you enter and, yes, you can enter both) will judge your design for the chance to win up to $7,000 in cash and prizes and see their shoes made in living color.

How do you get in the mix? Be 14-19 years old. Register at www.futuresole.com. Registration ends on June 1st.

Need a Home Court for Your Sport Project?

Do you know of a project that uses sport to build communities and transform lives but needs a home court?

Nike is teaming up with Architecture for Humanity to provide the funding and support to design and build innovative facilities that change lives. We're looking for Gamechangers- whether NGOs, social entrepreneurs or sports pioneers- with bold, new concepts using sport as a tool for social change.

We want to support multiple projects and will match up to 75% of the building costs. Like any competition- if you don't enter, you won't win, so upload your project today. And check out the the current entries or get more info.

The application period for the first round of funding ends on April 15, 2009. All entries submitted will be considered for additional rounds of this rolling grant program. Now get to it.
Checking Back in on Hispanic Heritage Month

While Hispanic Heritage Month in the US may have ended on October 15th, it’s always a good time to take notice of inspired talent.

During October, 7 Miami high schools participated in a design challenge on the theme of ‘Pride In Our Hispanic Heritage.’ The designs were judged by hip-hop artist, Fat Joe; local artist, Lebo; Chris Nunez of Miami Ink; baseball player, Gio Gonzalez; and Satcha Pretto of Univision.

Check out the video to get a glimpse of the immense talent and energy in Miami and see the winning design.
